The training prepares students for careers as researchers or professionals in biomedical research applied to human pathologies.
Access to training
The master's degree in health biology is intended for students in the fields of science (bachelor's degrees in biology) and health (medicine, pharmacy and dentistry).
Professionals can also join this master in continuing education.
See the application conditions and the administrative registration procedure.

Research-oriented training
The courses prepare students to pursue their studies at doctoral level in science.
The training is based on the research units of the Health Campus (more than 150 habilitations to direct research in health biology), the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire Méditerranée Infection and the Institut Paoli Calmettes, as well as on partnerships with many public and private actors.
- Infectious diseases and microbiota
- Oncology
- Metabolic and vascular diseases
- Human and Medical Genetics
- Health and Environment
- Clinical Research and Simulation in Health
Training geared towards professional integration
The courses are adapted to the demands of the professional world, and allow direct professional integration: techniques in biological sciences, cutting-edge technologies, new health professions (e.g. genetic counselling, health-environment interface).
The training also allows students to continue their studies with a doctoral thesis in science.
International training
The training is intended for students from around the Mediterranean (to date Morocco and Algeria), and enables them to obtain a double degree thanks to an inter-university partnership.
A path of excellence in health biology, oriented towards the pursuit of thesis studies, mainly in the fields of: infectious and microbial diseases, human and medical genetics, metabolic and vascular diseases.
Organization of studies
The Health Biology Master's degree offers cross-disciplinary teaching common to its 5 specialities, and the possibility of choosing optional modules to adapt the training to each student's professional or research project.
In addition, it is possible to reorient oneself during the course, bridges are set up with evaluation of each application individually.

First year
In the first semester, the common core teaching units (30 ECTS) enable students to acquire a base of cross-disciplinary teaching common to all courses.
In the second semester, the courses are divided into core courses (15 ECTS), course-specific courses (15 ECTS) and optional modules.
Students also complete a compulsory 8-week internship (12 ECTS). Please note: the choice of internship field can influence the choice of course in Master 2.
Second year
In semester 3, the common core courses (15 ECTS) are given to students from all backgrounds, in order to ensure a transdisciplinary training, particularly necessary for students who will continue their studies in a doctoral thesis.
The courses are supplemented by specific UEs (30 ECTS) and optional modules of your choice (12 ECTS).
In semester 4, students complete a compulsory 6-month internship (30 ECTS). They are also required to complete internships for further study and specialisation according to their personal project. Students who wish to pursue a doctoral thesis directly after their master's degree can complete a 5 to 6 month internship (21 ECTS) in a labelled research laboratory.
