Orthoptic training offers theoretical, practical and interdisciplinary instruction for a three-year degree.
The profession of orthoptist
Orthoptists are health professionals who detect and rehabilitate vision disorders by acting on the muscles that control the eyeballs.
They make a diagnosis, upon prescription by an ophthalmologist, and then perform exercises to strengthen the eye's muscles.
For example, to correct a strabismus, eye fatigue related to working with a screen, partial loss of vision following an accident.
Professional perspectives
The profession may be practised as an employee in a public or private structure, or as a self-employed person.
