Master's degree in biology health: health and environment

The Master explores the interaction between human health and the environment, the risks related to environmental factors and exposure and toxicology.

The Master's degree in Health Biology Research is intended for students in the scientific and health fields.

Objectives of the training

The objective of this speciality is to respond to environmental health issues and to identify environmental risks in order to structure their evaluation and prevention at the institutional level.

Environmental risks include passive exposures, behavioural risks and occupational exposures.

The Master's degree was created in response to a two-fold observation:

  • the impact of the environment on human health, as a result of changes in lifestyle in developed countries, the increase in human exposure to environmental pollutants and various toxic agents
  • human interactions with the environment to prevent exposures and improve the overall health of a population.

The Master's degree is part of the couple reproduction child environment and risks project (CREER) carried out by the A*Midex unit of excellence of the University of Aix Marseille (n° ANR-11-IDEX-0001-02).

Opportunities

The master's programme firstly allows students to integrate a doctoral thesis in science.

In addition, this specialization allows direct integration into professional life, in professions that require toxicological risk assessment of environmental or occupational exposures (pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food industry Public agencies and institutes, control companies offering toxicological assessment of chemical products in response to the European REACH directive, research consultancies specializing in the regulation of chemical products, safety and prevention of occupational risks, etc.).

Students in the Health sector will be able to integrate environmental issues into their hospital-university activity. As well as gynaecologists, biologists, paediatricians, general practitioners and midwives who wish to get involved in the CREER Aix-Marseille University hospital project.
